Every farmer knows the benefits of Irrigation. it can make a fair crop good, a good crop better, and it can save a crop In drought years. But with many irrigation systems, even with a well and pump, the cost of buying, installing, operating and maintaining the water distribution system makes Irrigation too expensive to be profitable in some cases. The Armin PolyPipe method changes that because it is the lowest-cost water distribution system yet developed for row-cropped, leveled-to-grade farm land. Lower Material Costs Based on manufacturers suggested retail price, the cost of Armin PoIy.Pipe can be as low as $4.00 an acre. Actual cost will vary depending on the distance from pump to field and the size and shape of the field. Since Armin Poly-Pipe is laid at right angles to the furrows, additional economy can be realized by planting on the long axis of a field. Lower Installation Costs Armin Poly-Pipe is a long seamless tube packaged in convenient rolls which can be unwound from the back of a truck, tractor, or even by hand by two men if necessary. Ideally, it should be laid in a clean shallow furrow 3~ to 5" deep to prevent it from rolling when filled with water. The pump end is easily fastened to the discharge pipe (which must be at ground level) with a rubber tarp strap or a large clamp. Elevate the open end 2 to 3 feet and never tie It off. After being laid and while pumping toothpick size holes should be made in the top of the Poly-Pipe where air pockets are visible to bleed oft excess air. This will prevent rupture. Then small holes or gates can be installed In the pipe at alternate furrows. The holes can be punched in one or both sides. After each use, puddled water remaining in the pipe holds it in place. Lower Maintenance Costs Armin Poly-Pipe requires no maintanance In the usual sense. It is laid any time after ground preparation and planting have been completed and can be used whenever needed during the entire growing season. Armin Poly.Pipe is formulated to resist exposure to sun and to resist bird and Insect damage for a normal length growing season. In special areas, such as high altitudes or long equatorial growing areas, the formula is changed slightly to better adapt It for these special applications. Lower Operating Costs Armin Poly-Pipe requires few accessories. Short sections can be spliced together by cutting the ends from a round can, and right angles and T joints can be formed by splicing in a piece of rigid irrigation pipe. The slick, smooth interior and lack of obstructions mean less friction loss, so pumping efficiency is higher. |

Armin in typical applications. Upper left. Poly-Pipe in use in a midwestern corn field. In many areas of the country, a hole punched in the tube at each furrow, as shown here, provides sufficient water for effective irrigation. Middle left. One of the greatest advantages of Armin Poly-Pipe is the speed and ease of installation. A roll of 1350 feet can be laid in minutes from a pick-up truck. Lower left. Holes can be punched in both sides of Poly-Pipe to water in both directions if the field layout or pump location requires it. Size of hole, location and head pressure determine gallons per minute released. Upper right. The field to the left is being watered by the Poly-Pipe method. As is apparent, the Poly-Pipe method takes less land out of cultivation, requires less labor to maintain and loses less water to evaporation. Middle right. A view of a Poly-Pipe
installation equipped with simple plastic water volume control fittings to
vary the amount of water delivered. Bottom right. Poly-Pipe can be laid a-long field roads, turn rows or directly through the fields was done here, as necessary by the location of the well. |

Fast, Easy Installation Preferably, Poly-Pipe should be laid in a shallow furrow. Such a furrow can be plowed and the pipe laid in one operation with a simple tractor towed rig like the one shown. Water Volume Control Fixture Recommended where soil conditions or type of crop requires a large or variable amount of water. These units have a 21/2" opening1 and are adjustable with a simple sliding gate from full open to closed. Install in seconds in the field with a simple hand tool and can be removed and reused indefinately. Contact your local Poly-Pipe dealer for costs and availability of these work saving accessories. |
